Estates Environmental Improvement Programme
To align with Central Government initiatives, Uttlesford District Council needed to improve its environmental performance and the overall efficiency of its estate. With a target reduction of 20% CO2 emissions over a four year period, Artelia was appointed to prepare a business case for the Council to achieve these commitments. Our start point was a detailed review of properties within the estate. This included a desk top study to highlight where the biggest potential savings could be achieved; identifying the biggest utility spends, the greatest use of space within buildings and the biggest carbon impacts. Through building surveys we assessed the options available to reduce energy, water consumption, CO2 and particulate emissions, and also improvements which could be made to the building fabric. We also benchmarked buildings against similar properties and industry standards to identify the best areas for potential improvement, providing the Council with a realistic and achievable strategy for change.
