Artelia was appointed to lead the planning, design, construction and move-in of a new build Community Leisure Centre in the Lancaster Green neighbourhood of Kensington.
The build replaces an outdated, 1970s Leisure Centre which fails to meet the needs of local people. The Leisure Centre is co-located with the newly opened Kensington Aldridge Academy, which was also project managed by Artelia. Co-locating the Academy and Leisure Centre on the same site enabled cost efficiencies to be achieved from shared services and facilities. It also provides a complete social regeneration of the Lancaster Green neighbourhood.
Facilities at the Leisure Centre include an 8 court sports hall, 110 station gym, a 25m pool and spa. In order to make effective use of space on the constrained site, the basement storey of the Leisure Centre houses the sports hall and the Academy basement level accommodates both a sports hall and theatre. A multi-use games area (MUGA) is located on the roof of the school.
The leisure centre was officially opened by HRH Duchess of Cambridge on the 19 January – view of video of the opening.
