The Social Justice Centre, Lambeth, is the redevelopment, refurbishment and extension of an existing brownfield industrial site into, not only office space, but a much expanded set of communal facilities. The company behind it, Ethical Property, manages workspace for charities, social enterprises, and voluntary and campaign groups.
Artelia provided a quantity surveying and CMC Co-ordinator services to help bring the project in on time and on budget. The project, in total, created nearly 4,800m2 of office space.
The centre is now a mix of around half new build and half refurbishments. The new block could function well as a conventional office space but will also offer the promise of an altogether more open ended inhabitation. The internal walls on the upper floors are not loadbearing; this allows them to be taken out and moved meaning the office can be suited to all ranges of companies and layouts.
