The legend of outlaw, Robin Hood, will soon be accessible to a whole new audience following the Heritage Lottery Fund’s (HLF) announcement that it has granted Nottingham Castle £13.9m to transform its visitor experience.

Artelia has been working with Nottingham City Council since May 2015 as Project Managers for the HLF ‘Development Phase’. Now that the Council has their ‘Round 2 pass funding from HLF, the ‘Delivery Phase’ can begin. Artelia will be acting as project manager again and also Contract Administrator when the project gets on site.

The centrepiece of the £29m project will be the creation of new galleries dedicated to Robin Hood and the story of rebellion in the city. Further works include restoration to the gatehouse and Palace galleries, remodelling of the landscape and grounds, including an adventure play area, a new visitor centre and an improved experience of the caves and of Brewhouse Yard Cottages which are situated at the foot of the Castle rock.

The soft opening will be at the end of 2019.
