Ranked among Europe’s top fifteen engineering companies, Artelia experienced intense activity in 2023, leading to strong growth and a significant increase in operating profit, two indicators illustrating the Group’s dynamism and financial strength. This performance and robustness are underpinned by a shareholding structure entirely composed of managers and employees, which was strengthened in 2023 through a key shareholding operation.
In July 2023, Artelia took a decisive step forward in its ambition to become a leading engineering company on the international stage with the acquisition of Canadian company FNX-INNOV, a major player in engineering in Canada. Artelia thus achieved its goal of being present on all five continents and generating 50% of its revenue outside France, two years ahead of schedule.
With almost 9,000 employees, the Group benefits from a strong footprint in Europe, Asia-Pacific and now North America, enhancing its support for all clients in their ecological and digital transformation projects, in line with the challenging sustainable development objectives the company has set itself for 2025. A Strengthening Global Presence By welcoming the 1,100 employees of FNX-INNOV, a historic engineering company in Canada, Artelia consolidates its position among the world leaders and opens up new opportunities on the North American continent. At the same time, the creation of ACE in India introduces the Group to one of the world’s major economies and establishes a new platform for its development in Asia, a continent where it is already very active with solid presence in Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia and Indonesia. In Europe, the progress is continuous and reinforced. Enjoying strong activity in Denmark, the Iberian Peninsula and the United Kingdom, Artelia also achieved exceptional growth in Italy and Germany in 2023. Artelia Italia confirmed its position as engineering leader with a remarkable breakthrough in the industrial and mobility sectors. The German subsidiary, strengthened by the integration of ProjektPlan, is now developing its business in the energy and industry sectors. With a turnover of almost €480 million outside France and a presence in over 40 countries, Artelia is now one of the top 15 engineering companies in Europe and one of the top 50 worldwide.
Benoît Clocheret, Artelia’s Chief Executive Officer, comments: “With almost 28,000 projects carried out in over 100 countries, we put into practice on a daily basis our great ambition to be a company that is useful to people and to the world. Adapting to climate change, preserving resources and protecting biodiversity are now on everyone’s minds. A growing number of our projects involve the development of low-carbon energy production, the implementation of energy efficiency in all sectors of activity, the fight against heat islands in cities, land use planning in the face of rising sea levels, the management of excess or lack of water… Through our recently launched “TRACE by Artelia” eco-design approach, we are taking the next step in mobilizing the Group’s expertise to help all our clients make the best choices for their projects.”
At the same time, Artelia has firmly committed itself to the SBT (Science Based Targets) initiative and has carried out in-depth work to comply with the demanding criteria imposed by this internationally recognized organization. In February 2024, SBTi validated Artelia’s greenhouse gas reduction trajectory to 2030 as compliant with the objectives of the Paris Agreement. Finally, echoing its raison d’être “Designing solutions for a positive life”, Artelia has stepped up its research and innovation efforts on sustainability, by committing to the creation of two new partnership chairs with engineering schools and universities (Medelia and Ville Métabolisme). The Group is also supervising eleven doctoral theses, all focusing on ecological transition and sustainability.
