Artelia UK has provided quantity surveying (QS) services on Muf Architecture/Art’s redevelopment of a derelict park into a landscaped community garden in Folkestone as part of the town’s triennial celebrations.
The £1.5 million project included landscaping, play areas, walkways, seating and car parking provision, and despite being commissioned as an art project alongside several temporary installations, is designed to be a permanent part of Folkestone’s town centre.
Lovisa Lindström, architectural designer at Muf Architecture/Art, said: ‘The space was previously a completely derelict car park with a very steep slope. We had to retain the existing car parking spaces, which was one of the major challenges in the project, and the steep slope meant working on three levels with three access points.’
The park was completed last week in advance of the Folkestone Triennial.
Full details of the project were featured in the latest edition of Architects’ Journal.
