The latest building to complete in Greenwich Design District is Building CI, designed by Architecture 00. The structure features an unusual metal mesh-wrapped stack of raw concrete floors with a clever design that maximises the floorplate and provides highly flexible creative workspaces. The key feature of the building, though, is the rooftop basketball court.
The space has been designed for a range of sports activities and events such as outdoor cinema, which can be booked by tenants and the public alike.
The building is highly sustainable achieving a BREEAM Excellent rating through a range of measures including maximising passive systems such as high thermal performance and an airtight envelope. Self-finished materials were chosen to avoid requirements for finishes and thereby reduce carbon emissions. The concrete mix includes a high level of waste material to reduce embodied carbon.
