Providing a landmark Teaching and Learning Centre

Cambridge House will be a new, state-of-the-art Teaching and Learning Centre for Birkbeck. Artelia has worked closely with the client and design team to manage costs for the extension and refurbishment of this 1920s building. The 6 storey plus basement level building will accommodate a café and learning hub for students on the ground floor and basement. High quality teaching and learning spaces on the upper floors with the College’s largest lecture theatre (seating 180) located in the two-storey rooftop extension which will be formed using Cross Laminated Timber (CLT). The scheme is designed to achieve BREEAM Excellent with photovoltaic panels on the main roof providing a 35% reduction of CO2 emissions, and generate on-site electricity.
