Bombardier Hangar, Biggin Hill
The ‘super hangar’, which covers 250,000 sq ft, will provide aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities for new Global 7500 executive jets which fly out of the airport. The scheme also includes 650,000 sq ft of apron area, car park and external works. The hangar’s vast scale means that the foundations have to resist the 2000T uplift loads that the 45m cantilever rafter trusses will create and over 1600 tonnes of steel and 300,000 sq ft of cladding have gone into its construction.
