ANG Artelia Group acted as Main Contractor and Cost Consultant for the conversion of a large historically important listed family home, Savile House, into 2 No. of standalone apartments with kitchens, bathrooms and living spaces; 6 No. of academic offices; communal kitchen; wash facility and music rooms.
Floating floors for music lessons/concerts
To ensure the reduction of noise transfer during music lessons and small concerts, floating floors were installed throughout the upper floors.
To achieve this, intricate underpinning of the building was required, breaking down existing foundations, installing shoring, fixing reinforcement bars and installing drainage.
Sensitive approach to construction
During the construction process it was of the upmost importance to cause absolute minimal damage to ensure all existing features were left untouched.
Successful outcome
The building was sensitively upgraded to modern building standards including tiling the entire roof, upgrading the existing windows and doors and installing high-grade insulation throughout. This conversion has given the College a much greater amount of modern useable space.
