North Street and Illchester Road are two high quality affordable homes developments delivered by Artelia on land owned by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. North Street, comprises 14 two-storey terraced courtyard houses, with two being completely wheelchair accessible. Ilchester Road is a terrace of six one bedroom bungalows for elderly residents and two, two-storey, two bedroom houses. Both sites are in constrained residential locations and presented a range of challenges around design, planning, service routes and capacity, adjoining owner rights of way and contaminated land. However, the resulting homes more than make up for these issues, providing local residents with characterful, efficient to run homes with a real sense of neighbourhood.
