Main contractor for sustainable residential conversion of barn complex.
ANG acted as Management Contractor and Cost Consultant for 13. No of stylish new and converted barns on a closed farm in Chilerton, Devon. The barns are split into 3 distinct areas. A collection of 3 courtyard barns split into 5 residential units, the courtyard barns are a mixture of old stone and cob barns with timber floors and roofs. The field barns consisting of 3 small individual detached stone and cob barns spread across the fields of the existing farm, all three field barns have had small timber frame extensions to provide new space for each residential unit.
Three larger more modern steel portal frame sheds have undergone major steelwork repairs and remediation.
Challenges
Being a farm there were challenges with access. The project therefore included a new roadway layout between the properties with access to all the barns, along with new foul and surface water drainage systems and a new attenuation pond.
Outcomes & Benefit
All the courtyard and field barns have undergone extensive repair to stonework and cob, with new lime render, repair and remediation to existing timberwork where possible to create beautifully renovated barn conversions.
These modern barns have new floors and walls to create large open plan residential units with a mixture of render and timber cladding.
A new biomass boiler house connects all properties on the farm.
