Reducing carbon across the service station network

Artelia installed Shell’s first UK EV Charger Solar Canopy at Shell Derby. The project reflects Shell’s continuing drive to provide customers with a sustainable and convenient EV on the go charging infrastructure and reduce carbon across Shell’s fuel service station network and operations.

Whilst solar canopies are not a new concept for Shell, this is the first to be installed above an EV Charging point. As well as providing protection from the rain for the EV car driver, the canopy utilises the newest solar panel technology available. Along with the visual impact, this array is high on efficiency and is able to produce a higher solar yield due to reflection from beneath the array of panels. The system will produce an annual yield of 1,000kWh giving the site a boost of electricity during daylight hours, helping to offset electricity consumption from the new high usage EV Chargers.
