South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust (SWLSTG) has announced government approval to start work on a multi-million-pound, pioneering development that will see the construction of two new mental health facilities, residential development and a 32-acre park and public realm in Tooting, South West London. The Trust’s vision is to create a health and residential community where people’s wellbeing, both mental and physical, is at its heart. Springfield Park is the first public open space of its size to be created in London since the 2012 Olympics and Artelia has been appointed as Employer’s Agent for the park and associated public realm and primary infrastructure works.

Our appointment is with STEP, a 50/50 partnership between Sir Robert McAlpine Capital Ventures Ltd and Kajima Partnerships who are delivering the development on behalf of SWLSTG.

Artelia’s role in overseeing delivery of the park, public realm, district heating system, new roads and other primary infrastructure will facilitate the creation of 839 new homes, community shops and café, a care home and land for development of a primary school. The park itself will create a network of green spaces, gardens, play areas and routes linking not just to the new health and residential developments, but also the surrounding areas of Tooting.
